The website for BLOCK_CHAIN > THE POWER OF TWO launches 9 January 2018, and the first two artists participating in this innovative, on-line residency are beginning their two-week collaboration.
CAS Associate Artist Peter Driver has been paired with James McColl from South West England. During their residency they will post digital images on instagram and post observational writing on the blog as part of their response to the subject of dissent.
Peter Driver is a multi-disciplinary artist using walking, printmaking, drawing, banner-making, performance and other procedures, to initiate dialogue. Often incorporating ambivalent texts, natural forms and a dissenting eye, his work relies on people bring their own biography and interpretation to artworks, participating in creating their meaning. These often evoke experiences of nature or landscape and questions about social relations and the common good.
James McColl is interested in taking his work out of dedicated art spaces to address the disconnect between the art community and the general public. His work focuses on minor life experiences that are largely dismissed or forgotten about to reveal something about our collective lives. He uses film and performance as a way to engage with larger social issues through simplistic and sometimes abstract actions that aim to transform a passive audience to actively engaged one.
