On Saturday 6th from 11am Lydia Heath is hosting a Skill Sharing event at The Bureau of Exchange in Andover. As part of the Freed Market (which has transformed the shop into a community space for exchanging resources, time, and skill) this event is a celebration of what each of us has to offer.
What do you value?
What do you know?
What do you love?
Over the course of the day people will be able to take part in short, informal sessions sharing with others their skills or knowledge, and receiving the same treatment in return. It could be a simple life hack that saves you time each day or something you’ve mastered through years of practice – you don’t need to be an expert though to have something to offer, just a willingness to share.
Do you value your skills?
If you think about it, we don’t walk around thinking of ourselves as “oh so skilled”, usually our skills are so well developed or natural to us, that we don’t recognise their value. We think other people know how to do what we can do, or worse: that if we can do them they must be easy (ha!)
Think of a skill you’re proud of or enjoyed learning.
Who taught you?
When and where did you learn it?
Have you recently learned something new?
The best way to integrate new learning is to teach it
Oftentimes when we learn something new we don’t feel confident with it, and may even avoid practicing it in public. But teaching someone else, who’s knows less than you do builds confidence and helps embed the learning so that it comes more naturally.
What new skills have you learned?
Is there something you always wanted to try?
Perhaps this is the most important question!
Send us a request and if we know someone with that skill we’ll invite them the Saturday Skill Share.
Who do you know, with interesting skills?
Support this event by nominating someone you know on Facebook. This way you let them know they have a skill you think is valuable. Simply tag them in a post on the Skill Share event page.
Ready to brainstorm your skills?
Personally, I had to jot down everything I could think of, however silly or small, to generate ideas for this event. Remember: the only limit is your imagination! I’ll share my list on Facebook in the next few days to inspire you.
Please have a think, and then use the form below to let us know what you want to share. We’ll confirm a time slot put you and your skill on the list for our customers on Saturday.
Remember, this is a free event so pick something you can teach in just 15 – 30min!
Share a Skill: Saturday 6th June from 11am
