All this week, visitors to the Bureau of Exchange have been invited to get creative with the concepts of trade, currency and exchange. Most people have a general unwillingness to take items they value without parting with something by way of exchange. The artists at The Freed Market facilitate a trade, by asking customers to offer an item of their own. Some visitors have left an IOU and returned the next day with goods for the Swap Shop.
Many people have dropped off their unwanted items which in turn have caught the eye of passes by. A conversation is had about what they have to trade, because we don’t want their money. Each exchange is unique, and items have been happily traded not just for goods but also poems, recipes, photographs of the exchange being made, expressions of thanks, and verbal agreements.
The Swap Shop continues on Saturday 6th but this time we will be swapping skills. The Skill Share Drop-in is an opportunity to pick up a new skill, and/or share what you know in as little as 5 – 10min (or 30min depending on the skill you want to learn).
