After receiving an eggbox of assorted and labelled items from Suzanna Raymond, Maija Liepins explored the qualities of each through a process of sorting, experimenting, ordering, and transforming. Pondering the concept of “Baba Yaga’s Wild Kitchen” she used material to think about the life giving sun, fire in the creative hearth, recycling materials for new creations, identifying the ‘foods’ that feed the wild creative soul. Her son joined her in “creating galaxies” and led their sound experiment, filmed by Maija.

The aerial picture is of an olive field in Tunisia and the contours are the banks which help retain water. Jacqueline chose to work with a mixture of olive oil and oil paints to play with the materials, creating marks and prints, weaves and relief images reminiscent of map contours. She says playing with the materials was a meditative process, making and unmaking, creating and changing.
