Andy Jones

Andy’s work explores social and political themes, his main enquiry is about humanity, immigration, and homelessness. His recent works include paintings on large industrial plastic sheeting instead of canvas. Exploring the limits and interaction of paint and plastic which are both bi-products of the polymer petroleum chemical industry. The choice of non-traditional materials has given Andy a way to comment on and challenge artistic norms. This has included use of cardboard boxes as frame and material. Here, ideas of the migrant as transportable commodity are explored.

Andy’s work has the potential to remind us of the brutality behind sanitized narratives and images of violence. Andy’s exploration of societal and political issues has been influenced by Jean Michel Basquiat but Andy also credits hits peers “with whom I have had daily interactions and have made an insurmountable impact on my work.”
