Join in with the fun, innocence and adventure of flight
‘One Red Balloon’ a game for Andover Space Programme by Tom Mansfield, Upstart Theatre
When we were first planning the Andover Space Programme launch last year, it felt exciting. Launching a balloon full of people’s memories and hopes, and sending it to the edge of space was a thrill.
Since the lockdown began, it’s come to mean something else to me – finding a kind of freedom that’s been denied to all of us by the Covid-19 epidemic.
Our original plans for the launch were to have a big ceremony in the middle of Andover, with everybody welcome. That’s not possible anymore, but we have found alternative ways to include you.
You will be able to get live updates from the balloon launch site and chase car on Sunday 6th September from the A-fest Live Stream and Andover Radio 95.9FM. And to coincide with the event I’ve made a small computer game about the fun, innocence and adventure of flight.
Play ‘One Red Balloon’
Your goal is to take the balloon as high as possible, while dodging the obstacles up in the air. I hope that people will be able to play this at home and enjoy themselves, and as a reminder that there’s still a bigger picture out there – we can still all look up to the sky and dream about what’s possible…. while dodging birds, parachutists and rockets of course!
