Guest Artist Interview 4/5 for Housebound, a contemporary art exhibition on Instagram, curated by Susan Francis.
Debbie says… During the covid-19 lockdown I have been homeschooling my children so my studio has been overflowing into different rooms around the house as I supervise their work. Some of my images have been used by the Homeworks residency project, an online platform coordinated by The Spilt Milk Gallery to share creative parents’ work during lockdown. My children seem to require a parental presence to keep on track and this means that we get embroiled in the art and life practice together. It’s a bit like juggling eggs whilst there’s an elephant in the room. My studio is in the garage.
Time for a coffee; I have been looking at intimate spaces of retreat around my home where I take refuge. This is one of those quiet moments to myself hidden in the kitchen it could be making a pot of coffee to welcome visitors who have just arrived.
The home provides a container of the innerworld from the outer space and the walls within seem to create further boundaries within that frame. Not many people get to see inside.
