Inside the mind of an artist; Phil Illingworth

Guest Artist Interview 2/5

For the exhibition Housebound, Week 2; ‘The Bathroom’, curated by Susan Francis — @houseboundart, Interviews by Maija Liepins

Over the last decade Phil Illingworth has has created highly crafted, beautifully considered pieces of work with very intriguing titles. His work can look like sculpture and wall installations but he presents them as paintings.

It was a great pleasure to interview artist Phil Illingworth as part of our ‘Housebound’ interview series on @CASartists Instagram (IGTV). He was incredibly generous with sharing how he thinks and approaches his work which more often than not are presented as paintings. This is his search, the quest to make work about painting.

In Housebound, Illingworth is showing work titled “84% Agree” (pictured above). Illingworth has exhibited in the UK, the USA, China, and in Europe including the 53rd Venice Biennale. His works have been selected for the John Moores Painting Prize, the Marmite Prize IV, and the Jerwood Drawing Prize.
