The team, here at Chapel Arts Studio (CAS), are delighted to be launching a public art project in a local pop-up shop. Each week, for four weeks, The Bureau of Exchange will feature a new resident artist who will transform the shop and bring Andover something new. Andover Zine Fair
Wed 27 May – Fri 29 May
The Zine fair is a friendly introduction into the realms of alternative culture and self publishing. Members of the Alternative Press, a collective from London, will be attending two of the three dates with screen printing and zine making workshops. There will also be goods available from vast and various creative corners not normally found on your local high street. Join artist Tom Mortimer to experiment to zine making techniques and create your own small publication. Zine making allows for self expression at any age, whatever your interests. Read more…
The Freed Market
Wed 3 June – Sat 6 June
Lydia Heath will be running The Freed Market project within the shop inviting people to take part in a swap shop, foraging, skill sharing, financial disclosures, clothing repairs and food waste meals. The Freed Market is an ongoing research project proposing alternative futures to current capitalist models. It seeks to address how art contributes to social/political change and the question ‘how do we want to live together?’ Read more…
Build a cardboard city
Wed 10th – Sat 13th June
Artist David Dixon invites Andovarian’s and visitors to Andover to answer ‘where do I want to live?’ by contributing to the creation of a 3D fictional townscape. Materials will be provided but people can also bring their own. In addition there will be a doodle wall: a large scroll of paper will be on the wall and the end result will be a giant blue print of a fictional town which everyone has designed. Andover March for Optimism
Saturday 20th June
Community procession through Andover town centre featuring optimistic slogans generated by the public, music and cheering, and poetry reading at the end. Placards/signs/banners can be made at the shop June 18th and 19th, artist Peter Driver will also run sign making workshops in schools. Read more…

Andover Loves Me Back
Artist Laurence Rushby will walk a heart shaped route of Andover, spinning local wool as she walks and collecting stories from the people met along the way. Their stories will be represented on the artists belt which carries the spindle used to spin the wool. Read more…
Broken Toys and Happy Hearts
Monday’s After School, 4.00pm – 6.30pm, 1st, 8th and 15th June
In this 3 day workshop you are invited to join a group of parents and children and create your artwork using broken toys, modroc and drawing materials. Together with others you will have an opportunity to explore these materials and your imagination through friendly guided instructions, as well as plenty of free time to experiment and play. Swap Shop Extravaganza

Artist Lydia Heath launches The Freed Market within the Bureau of Exchange on Wednesday 3rd June and brings you a Swap Shop Extravaganza like no other. Think you know how swap shops work? Think again. This is a free event allowing participants to determine the terms of their swaps by exploring their reasons for offering up what they bring, the value they hold and what they’re prepared to accept in exchange. Entry only requires one item. Any items can be swapped: clothes, books, food, plants, favours, I.O.U.’s – the only limit is your imagination!
Food Waste Cafe
Thursday 4 June, from 12.30pm
All day at The Bureau of Exchange, a pop-up Food Waste Cafe will be serving up delicious meals made from locally intercepted food waste to highlight the increasing issue of food waste and food poverty in the UK today, and our detached relationship to the food on supermarket shelves. Pop in for a chat and some tasty free food! This event is brought to you by Southampton based artists Louiza Hamidi & Libby Russell.
The Heart of Andover
Thursday 4th June 10am – 3pm
Create a pewter coin or token which can also be worn as a necklace. You will learn metalworking techniques from Jewellery artist Ruth Facey and help Laurence in her quest for stories. What does it really take to make money? Ask yourself and find out through the practical experience of creating a coin tailor made for the project and representing the map of Andover. Read more…
What’s It Worth?
Exhibition of works by pupils at Icknield Special Needs School
Tuesday 16th June, 5.30pm – 7.00pm
Deborah Skinner, contemporary artist, will be working with pupils from Icknield Special Needs School every Tuesday when the shop is closed to the public. The project will reflect on values and work towards transforming the discarded by utilising recycled materials to form a collaborative sculptural piece. They will finish by curating an exhibition of their work. The project will contribute to the pupils gaining their Discover Arts Award. The public are invited to an Early Bird Preview 5.30pm and Meet the Artists at 6.00pm on Tuesday 16 June. Read more…
Night Vision
Sat 6 June, 10pm
Our relationship with night is a deeply personal one. Susan Francis gathers the thoughts and memories of this nocturnal world, shared by people from all walks life, to form the material for a night time performance. By morning, the remaining artwork will hold traces of this night time exchange but the words themselves will forever remain the property of the dark. Read more…
